Golden Jubilee National Seminar on Social Change through Social Work Education and Social Activism with Special Reference to Women’s Empowerment. Two-day UGC-ICSSR Golden Jubilee National Seminar on 8-9 January 2007 was inaugurated on 8 Jan by Dr S Parasuraman, Director, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. Dr Panna Akhani, Principal, LAD College for Women, Nagpur presided over.

The following papers were presented during the seminar :

4. Ms. Geetha Thachil: “Empowering Women Survivors of Domestic Violence: A Strength Perspective”.
5. Prof Kalindi S. Muzumdar: “Problems Encountered by Women Social Workers in diverse fields – Possible Remedial Measures”.
6. Dr. Prajakta Tanksale: “Social Work Activism, Women and Social Change in the context of Social Development”.
7. Mrs. Anjali Kanitkar : Challenges Before Women Activists Today”.
8. Ms. Nandita Mondal: “Social Work Education in Ushering Social Change in India: A Feminist Standpoint”.
9. Dr. (Ms) Jacinta D’Souza: “Relevance of Social Work Education for Women’s Empowerment”.
10. Prof (Mrs) Meenaxi Apte: “Social Development in Social Work Education”.
11. Dr. Shilpa Puranik: “Women Workers in the Unorganized Sector – Field Realities in the World of Construction. The Valedictory session of the seminar on 9th Jan 2007 was chaired by Prof Meenaxi Apte, President, Saathi, Pune. Prof Kalindi Muzumdar, Former Vice Principal of the Nirmala Niketan College of Social Work, Mumbai and Dr Jacinta D’souza, Principal, Roshni Nilaya College of Social Work, Mangalore were the Guests of honour. Prof Meenaxi Apte was also felicitated on the occasion for her life time contribution to social work education and practice. Dr John Menachery functioned as the Seminar Coordinator
