Dr Ajit Kumar (Associate Professor)

http://www.mssiswngp.org/images/Dr.%20Ajit%20Kumar.gif Dr Ajit Kumar completed his graduation from Cotton College, Guwahati, with honours in Anthropology. He is an alumnus of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. He did his M.Phil (Social Work) from Nagpur University, and doctorate from Sambalpur University, Orissa.

Dr Kumar joined this Institute in 1983. He was closely associated with the field action projects of the Institute namely: ‘Slum Community Development Scheme’ (1983-86), and the ‘Village Socio-Economic Development Project’ (1988-1995). Earlier he has worked with the Nagpada Neighbourhood House, Mumbai.

Dr Kumar completed a Minor Research project titled “Rural Youth Mobility” under UGC assistance. He also undertook research projects titled “Low Income Families (for Indo-German Social Service, Bangalore), and “Privatization of Sanitation Services” for SNDT Women’s University, Pune. He has eight articles to his credit in the Economic and Political Weekly, related to environment, village politics, and statehood for Vidarbha. He has also published three articles in the Indian Journal of Social Work on social work profession.

Dr Kumar was member of a group of social work educators from the Asia-Pacific region who met at La Trobe University, Australia to frame a ‘Social Work Curriculum with a Social Development Perspective in 1997. He also functioned in the advisory panel constituted by TISS Mumbai, on ‘Enhancing the Social Development Perspective within Social Work Education’.

Ms Anuradha Joshi (Associate Professor)

http://www.mssiswngp.org/images/Mrs.%20Anuradha%20Joshi.gif Ms Anuradha Joshi did her MSW (with specialization in FCW), MA (Political Science), and M.Phil (Social Work) from the Nagpur University. She is a faculty member in the Institute since 1982. She was instrumental in establishing a Family Counselling Centre on behalf of the Institute, with the support of the CSWB. She has also served as consultant to the Foundling Home, School Social Work Project, and the Adult Education Project of the Institute. Besides presenting papers at seminars and conferences, she also has coordinated national and state-level seminars/workshops. She has published articles in the print media.

Ms Joshi is a member of the Executive Committee of the Mahal Branch of Matru Sewa Sangh. She has served as consultant to the village-level micro-planning Project regarding “Reproductive & Child Health”, undertaken by the Mahal Branch of MSS with support from UNICEF. She has functioned in a team that evaluated social work colleges in Vidarbha on behalf of the Department of Social Welfare. Her special areas of interest include welfare and development of women, children and differently abled persons. Ms Joshi is actively associated with ‘Social Work Intervention for Juvenile Justice’ project of the Institute and with a few voluntary agencies working on the above aspects.

Dr Arun Kumar (Associate Professor)

http://www.mssiswngp.org/images/Dr.%20Arun%20Kumar.gif Dr Arun Kumar joined this Institute in 1979 and is an Associate Professor in Social Work. He is an alumnus of St Xavier’s (Patna), Hans Raj College (Delhi), and the Delhi School of Social Work. He also did his post-graduation in Gandhian Thought and his doctoral research on the National Service Scheme of the Nagpur University.

Dr Arun Kumar has been a member of the national-level eleven-member UGC Panel on Social Work Education (1997-2000); the Editor of the ASSWI Newsletter (1994-1998); member of the ASSWI Executive Committee (three terms); and member of the advisory panel of the SWEP Cell of the TISS, Mumbai (2002-05). He has contributed to the development of the UGC Model Curriculum for social work education (2001).

Three scholars have done their PhD under his supervision. He was the first coordinator of the M.Phil (Social Work) course at this Institute (1988-1991). He has worked as a Resource Person for about 185 workshops, training programmes and refresher courses. His areas of special interests include: Social Work Education and Practice, Curriculum Development, Social Research Methodology, Gandhian Thought and Social Development.

 Dr Geetha Thachil (Associate Professor)

She holds a Bachelor of Social Work degree with first class, first rank from the University of Bombay. She completed her Master of Arts degree in Social Work with Family and Child Welfare specialization (FCW) from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai in 1983 and was awarded the Best Student Award for the same. She did her M.Phil (Social Work) from RTM Nagpur University.
She was awarded Ph. D Degree by RTM Nagpur University in the Faculty of Social Sciences (Subject: Social Work) for her Thesis titled “Dimension of Domestic Violence and Social Work Intervention: A Study of Persons Seeking Help In Family Counselling Centres Working in Collaboration with Nagpur City Police”. She was awarded UGC Fellowship for her research.

Dr Thachil was instrumental in initiating an innovative project “The Cells for Women in Distress” in collaboration with the Nagpur City Police (1995). She is the Honorary Director of the Family Counselling Centre run at the Dhantoli Police Station, Nagpur. She pioneered the initiation of a Legal Aid Centre for Women in Nagpur by Majlis Manch, Mumbai (1999).

She has organized a number of National, State and Regional level seminars and workshops on topics such as family counseling and human rights and has participated in two international human rights training programmes, one in Canada and another at Sri Lanka.

 Dr John Antony Menachery (Professor-Principal)

Menachery joined this Institute in 1982 and is currently the Professor-Principal.He is an alumnus of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. He received his basic education at the St Augustine’s School and Sacred Heart College, Cochin. He graduated from Karnatak University, Dharwad, in Criminology & Forensic Science. He also did his M.Phil (Social Work); Diploma in Gandhian Thought; Bachelor of Journalism; and his doctoral research on Criminal Justice Social Work from the Nagpur University. He was awarded a Gold Medal at the Bachelor of Journalism examinations by the Nagpur University.

Before joining as Professor-Principal, Dr Menachery was Professor and Dean at the School of Rural Development of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (Deemed University). He was also responsible for directing the ‘Tata-LAHDC Development Support Programme’, which is an ongoing initiative of TISS in partnership with the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, in Leh district of J&K. He also served as a member of the three-member expert team that visited the Kabul University for assessment of the human resource development needs of Afghan Universities.

Closely connected with the child rights movement in India, Dr Menachery has headed the first nation-wide child helpline network, namely, the Childline India Foundation, Mumbai. He was instrumental in setting up the Childline service in Nagpur. He is also credited with setting up the first drug de-addiction facility in central India under the aegis of the Institute. He has published many articles in professional journals.

Dr Menachery is closely associated with several voluntary organizations. He is president of Varadaan-Indian Association for Promotion of Adoption and Child Welfare, and General Secretary of the Maharashtra Association of Social Work Educators. He has contributed as a Resource Person for about 175 workshops, training programmes and refresher courses. He represented India at the “First International Child Helplines Consultation” held at Amsterdam in 2003. He has served in many University-level bodies, including the Board of Studies in Social Work and the Academic Council of TISS. He was on the state-level committee constituted by the Ministry of Social Welfare of the Maharashtra Government for evaluation of social work colleges in the state. Ms Jyoti Motghare (Associate Professor)

http://www.mssiswngp.org/images/Mrs.%20Jyoti%20Motghare.gifMs Jyoti Motghare has done her BSc (Occupational Therapy), MSW (with specialization in Medical & Psychiatric Social Work), and MPhil (Social Work) from the Nagpur University. She is a faculty member in the Institute since 1982.

Ms Motghare has completed one UGC-aided ‘Minor Research Project’ titled “Compliance with Medical Advice: A Study of Patients with Heart Ailments”. She has served as a consultant to the ‘Medical Social Service Centre’ and ‘Family Counselling Centre’ of the Institute. She was a member of the Subject Examination Committee of the RTM Nagpur University. She has participated in national and international level seminars and conferences. Ms Motghare has completed her doctoral research work on : “A Study of HIV Positive Persons in the City of Nagpur with Special Reference to their Psycho-social Problems”.

Ms Jyoti Niswade (Assistant Professor)

http://www.mssiswngp.org/images/Mrs.%20Jyoti%20Niswade.gifMs Jyoti Niswade is a B.Sc. in Biochemistry and has done her post-graduation in Social Work with specialization in Labour Welfare & Personnel Management from the RTM Nagpur University. She has also passed the National Eligibility Test (NET) in Social Work conducted by the UGC.

Ms Niswade joined this Institute in 2000 and is an Assistant Professor in Social Work. Earlier, she was a Junior Research Fellow at the National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI), Nagpur (1998-2000), and engaged in environmental impact assessment and development of action plans for resettlement and rehabilitation of people likely to affected due to proposed developmental projects.

Ms Niswade has presented a paper at the National Consultation on Disaster Management Challenges to Social Work Education (2001) organized by the Bombay University and the College of Social Work at Mumbai. Ms Niswade has completed her doctoral research. Email: jyoti.niswade@gmail.com

Dr Keshav Walke (Assistant Professor)

http://www.mssiswngp.org/images/Mr.%20Keshav%20Walke.gifDr Keshav Walke completed his MSW with two specialisations, namely Criminology & Correctional Administration, and Medical & Psychiatric Social Work; and MA (Sociology) from the RTM Nagpur University. He has cleared the National Eligibility Test conducted by the UGC, New Delhi.

Dr Walke joined this Institute as an Assistant Professor in Social Work in 1998. He was  awarded  Ph. D Degree by the RTM Nagpur University in the Faculty of Social Sciences (Subject: Social Work) for his Thesis titled “Tribals in Tiger Reserves in Vidarbha – Their Displacement and Rehabilitation in the Context of Sustainable Development : A Study of Social Work Intervention”.

He has earlier served as the Hon. Director of Nagpur Childline’s Nodal Organization. His other areas of interest are child protection, displacement of tribal people and their rehabilitation, and rural youth. He is associated with various professional and voluntary organizations at state, national and international levels. He has participated in various seminars, conferences and workshops. Dr Walke provides consultancy in preparation and execution of research projects; and in the evaluation of government aided projects run by the NGOs’ (Integrated Programme for Street Children, and Homes under Juvenile Justice Act 2000). Dr Walke is a member at district level Task Force constituted for the proper implementation of the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986. He has presented four research-based papers at state and national level seminars/conferences. He has taken part in many TV talks on different social issues related to rural youth problems times conducted by the Nagpur Doordarshan.

 Ms Nandita Mane (Assistant Professor)

http://www.mssiswngp.org/images/Ms.%20Nandita%20Mane.gifAn alumna of the Hislop College, Nagpur, Ms Nandita Mane completed her graduation in the faculty of Arts in 1998. She also did her B.Ed (2000) and MA (English) (2001) from the Nagpur University.  She has passed the State Eligibility Test (SET) in English conducted by the Maharashtra State (2002).

Ms Mane joined the Institute in 2003 as an Assistant Professor in English. Earlier she was guest faculty at the post graduate Department of English at the RSM Dharampeth College, Nagpur. She was a resource person in English communication skills in the Certificate Course at the same college. Ms Mane was also associated with the Sandipani School, Nagpur.

Ms Mane has published a paper on “Using Literature in Language Teaching” through the English Language Teachers’ Association of India (ELTAI). She also has presented a paper titled “How Women Write: Against All Odds” at a lecture series on “Feminism and Literature” at the Dept of Linguistics of the RTM Nagpur University. She is also associated with the “Stagecraft Theatre” which is Nagpur’s first and only English theatre group. Ms Mane is currently pursuing her doctoral research in the field of drama.

Dr Naveenchandran K. (Associate Professor)

http://www.mssiswngp.org/images/Dr.%20Naveenchandran.gifDr Naveenchandran is a graduate from the Kerala University. He completed his post-graduation in Social Work from the Nagpur University. He also secured MIRPM, LLB, and PhD Degrees and a Diploma in Human Resource Management (DHRM) from the Nagpur University. Dr Naveenchandran joined the Institute as an Assistant Professor in 1983 and is presently designated as an Associate Professor in Social Work. He is also visiting faculty for the MBA, MIRPM and MLS courses of the RTM Nagpur University.

Dr Naveenchandran is an approved PhD guide of the RTM Nagpur University. Three research scholars under his guidance have been awarded PhD degree in social work. Currently five doctoral scholars are carrying out research under him.

Dr Naveenchandran who has published four papers in professional journals has served the expert committee of RTM Nagpur University for syllabus modification. He was also the VC’s nominee on the state-level committee constituted by Ministry of Social Welfare of the Maharashtra Government for evaluation of social work colleges in the state. He is also associated with a few NGOs in various capacities. Dr Naveenchandran is a member of the editorial advisory board of the Indian Journal of Social Issues, Nagpur.

 Dr Prajakta P. Tanksale (Associate Professor)

Tanksale has done her M.A. (History), M.S.W. with specialization in Family & Child Welfare, and Ph.D from the Nagpur University. She stood first merit in the MSW examinations. She joined this Institute in 1980 and is now an Associate Professor in Social Work.

Dr Tanksale has authored 9 books on Social Work in Marathi. She has completed one UGC assisted Minor Research Project titled ‘Parenting the Differently Abled and Social Work Intervention Strategies’. She has functioned as a resource person in several training programmes and workshops organized by both governmental and voluntary agencies on women’s welfare, child welfare and working with the differently abled. She was closely associated with projects for eye donation, differently abled children, adult education, family counseling and medical social work. She also renders counseling to the needy. She is actively associated with ‘Social Work Intervention for Juvenile Justice’ project of the Institute.

 Dr Prince Ajay Kumar Agashe (Librarian)

Dr Prince Ajay Kumar Agashe has done his M.Sc., M.Lib.Sc., M.Phil., B.Ed., and Ph.D in Library Science from the RTM Nagpur University. He has also He joined the Institute as Librarian in 2010. He has also cleared the State Eligibility Test conducted by the Pune University.

Ms Rekha Dandekar (Associate Professor)

Ms Rekha Dandekar has done her BSW from Nagpur University and MSW with specialisation in Family & Child Welfare from the Poona University, Pune. She is an alumna of the Karve Institute of Social Service, Pune. She has been a faculty in the Institute since 1980. She has taken part in workshops conducted by NIPCCD, New Delhi.

Ms Dandekar has served as consultant to the Medical Social Service Centre and Foundling Home of the Institute. She was consultant also to the Creche’s Supervision and Monitoring Project of the Institute. She was a member of the advisory committee constituted by the Commissioner of Tribal Welfare, Nagpur district. Ms Dandekar has taken part in TV and radio programmes on adoption, child welfare, and problems of rural students. She was a resource person for training programmes for the ICDS workers. Dr Sphurti Katarni (Associate Professor)

She has done her MA (Psychology) and PhD (Psychology) from the Nagpur University. She has served as a consultant of the Family Counseling Centre and the Social Service Centre of the Institute, and Warden of the Working Women’s Hostel of the Institute. 

Dr (Mrs) Katarni who has published a book titled “Manas Shashtra Vichar Vishay ani Upayojan” in Marathi is an approved PhD guide of the RTM Nagpur University in Social Work and Psychology. She has served the RTM Nagpur University as a Member of the Board of Studies in Social Work, Subject Examination Committee, Local Enquiry Committee, and  Committee Selection of Lecturers. She is a donor member of the Matru Sewa Sangh and a consultant in the advisory committee of the Family Counselling Centre.

Dr (Mrs) Katarni has participated in several national and state-level seminars and conferences and presented papers.

Dr Vaishali Bezalwar (Associate Professor)

She did her MA (Marathi) from Shri Binzani Mahavidyalaya, Nagpur, and M.Phil (Marathi) from the Post Graduate Department of Marathi at the RTM Nagpur University. Dr Bezalwar was conferred doctorate by the RTM Nagpur University for her research work titled “Stree Nibandakar - Irawati Karve, Vibhavari Shirurkar, Kusumavati Deshpande, Geeta Sane, and Durga Bhagwat yanche vaicharic sahityaacha sameekshatmak abhyas”. She is at present a Reader in Marathi.

Dr Bezalwar completed  a ‘Major Research Project’ under UGC assistance titled: “Major Rivers of India (Ganga, Yamuna, Narmada, Sindhu, Godavari, Krishna, and Kaveri – Culture, Literature and Lifestyle on the Banks”. She is a member of the Editorial Board of the Marathi Text Book Committee of the RTM Nagpur University and has authored many text books in Marathi for the undergraduate classes.

Dr Bezalwar is the President of ‘Nirman – VJNT Social Sanstha’ and is actively associated with several other organizations like : Beldar Samaj Patrika, Kamalatai Hospet Stree Sahayak Mandal, Madhukarrao Mutyalwar Public library, Vidarbha Sahitya Sangh, Narmada Ghati Research Anusandhan Kendra, and the International Centre for Cultural Studies.

On lien from the Institute, Dr Bezalwar is currently Principal of the Arts & Commerce College, Bhandara.

Ms Saroj Kolhe

Ms Saroj Kolhe is an alumna of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. She is specialized in Social Welfare Administration. She also has done her M.Phil (SW) from the RTM Nagpur University. Associated with the Post Graduate Department of the Institute she functions as the Class Director of the M.Phil Programme.

Ms Maitreyi Kale is an alumna of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. She is associated with the Post Graduate Department of the Institute as a visiting faculty.

Ms Aparna Deshpande (Administrative Officer)

 A post graduate in Commerce from the RTM Nagpur University, Mrs Aparna Deshpande has also done MS-CIT, MS Office and Certificate course in Computer Operations. She also has secured certificates in English, Hindi and Marathi typing. She is working with the Institute since 1998.

Mr Baba Ingale (Head, Administration & Accounts)

A post graduate in Commerce from the RTM Nagpur University, Mr Baba Ingale has also done Certificate course in Library Science, Certificate Course in typing and Accounts. He is with the Institute since 1975. Currently Mr Ingale is also the Head of the Administrative Section.

Ms Deepali Mude (Accounts Clerk)

A Commerce graduate from the RTM Nagpur University, Ms Deepali Mude is working with the Institute since 1998, as an Accounts Clerk.
